Of all accessories, one I find as a wonderful, yet challenging canvas for pattern design is the clutch bag. Due to its compact dimensions, the patterns designed for a clutch bag should be small-scaled and not too busy with elements and colors. On the other hand, I do believe a good clutch bag should have defined presence which will add some impact to the outfit. So it all comes to finding the right balance: one or two repetitive elements, and two or three shades of color.

It is also important to pay attention to the shape and silhouette of the bag. The pattern needs to work well with the outlines of the bag and both should flow together without competing with each other. A good pattern can turn a plain clutch bag into a jewel – an accessory that will make any outfit pop.
